About Us
The Tournament
The tournament will consist of invited Country Clubs.
Cost: $150 per man ($1800 per team) includes cart and green fee for the days of competitive rounds.
The Team
This is a very unique opportunity for Country Clubs across this area to show their pride; and the skill of their golfers. The participants of each county club’s team will be required to be the initiated member of their respected clubs, not a child or other dependent of the initiated member. We will not allow any participant that is not the actual registered member of the club.
Teams will be made up of 12 members. There WILL BE NO HANDICAP ADJUSTMENT. Each game should pair 2 golfers with course handicap within 3 strokes of each other, unless waived by the club at the disadvantage or in the A classification. The objective is to have an even match according to course handicap applying the handicap index.
Handicap Index Categories
A - 3 Players - +Handicaps to 2.9
B - 3 Players - 3 to 6.9
C - 3 Players - 7 to 10.9
D - 3 Players - 11 +
(some variances are allowed as long as matches are within 3 strokes using course handicap from varying teeing grounds)

RE: The Governors’ Cup - Team Invitational
Dear Invitee;
I am writing to cordially invite your Country Club to participate in The 5th Governors’ Cup matches and Championship. This is a team concept that will involve country clubs that will participate by invitation only for a team championship. Many of us participate in individual tournaments on a yearly basis, both at our club levels and at the State level, however, there are very few tournaments that allow for you to play for a team, as a team and for the pride of your country club. This tournament will allow for you to do all three.
Member Clubs include Fox Den, Green Meadows, Oak Ridge, and Springbrook that have particpated annually. For 2024, we are excited to announce the addition of Black Creek Club to participate in this exciting format.
We are extending invitations to Cherokee, Gettysvue, Beaver Brook, Country Club of Morristown, TN National, Signal Mountain, Council Fire, Cleveland, River Bend, Stones River, Old Hickory, Lakewood, Centennial, and The Grove for 2024. We are anticipating 16 clubs in the competitions for 2024. This will be comprised of 4 regional tournaments with winners advancing to a championship. The date and hosting sites will be determined in January at the annual Board of Directors meeting.
Teams will consist of 12 members equally divided into 4 handicap classifications: (Handicap Index) A. 0-2.9, B. 3-6.9, C. 7-10.9, D. 11+ (some variances are allowed as long as matches are within 3 strokes using course handicap from varying teeing grounds). There will be no handicap adjustment within the classifications. Each game will be played in the match play format with 12 points awarded at the conclusion of the games. Ties will be determined by which team accumulates the most holes won in each game thusly signifying the importance of playing every game through its entirety.
The cost for this tournament is $150 per team member (or $1800 per team) which will include 3 rounds of tournament golf (green fees & cart included) at the regional site AND 3 rounds of championship golf at the championship site. We certainly encourage teams to embrace the team concept and wear uniform, club colors and logos.
As there are only a limited number of teams being invited and that will be included in the field, I encourage you to notify me as soon as possible to enter your club into this tournament to secure your team’s placement. I can guarantee you, once members of your club have participated in this event, they will look forward to it every year. This is a very unique format and opportunity to show pride in your club, to show the abilities of your golfers, and participate in an event that is unlike any other.
